When should I start pelvic physiotherapy during pregnancy?
You can start physiotherapy at any time during pregnancy or postpartum if you have symptoms or specific concerns, and it is never too late even if it has been years or even decades since your delivery.
We typically don’t do internal assessments during the 1st trimester of pregnancy or prior to your 6 week postpartum check up with your care provider, but there is much we can address without having to do an internal exam and we don’t ever have to do one if you would prefer not to!
Suggested appointment schedule during pregnancy if you don’t have symptoms but want to be proactive and learn about your body:
1st appointment ideally during the 2nd trimester
2nd appointment at beginning of 3rd trimester
3rd appointment at around 34 weeks pregnant
Suggested postpartum appointment schedule:
3-4 weeks postpartum - online or in person appointment (no internal exam performed)
6-8 weeks postpartum - in person appointment with possible internal pelvic floor assessment, if cleared by your care provider
*Follow-up visits will be jointly determined depending on your symptoms and individual situation and goals
